November 25-29

I always enjoy parent teacher interviews and I thank all the families who were able to come meet with me.  It was wonderful to connect with all of you to celebrate your child and set goals for the next few months of Grade One. Thank you for your continued support with your child's education!  I am so grateful that we can work together.

Also, a huge thank you for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair!  60% of the proceeds will go towards new books for our library!

Wishtree~ Christmas Tree Festival
-At the beginning of November, we were so lucky to have Mrs. Michelle Dimnik come to our classroom for a very special project. The U of L Bookstore and the 1 District 1 Book committee were putting together a "Wishtree" Christmas tree for the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation Christmas Tree Festival. Mrs. Dimik invited our class to be a part of this special project and we wrote special wishes on ribbons to hang on the tree. The tree was auctioned off for $5100!!!! This year’s proceeds will support the Mental Health area of the Chinook Regional Hospital.  Take a look at how beautiful the tree turned out!

Field Trip to the Galt Museum
On Tuesday, December 3rd we will be going to the Galt Museum to learn about Christmas traditions from the past.  This is one of my favourite field trips!  I am looking for at least 3 parents to volunteer for this field trip.  If you are able to help out, please return the bottom portion of the field trip letter that I sent home, or email me. We will be leaving the school at 10:40 (program starts at 11:00) and then heading back to the school at 12:20.

Christmas Concert
-We are very excited for our Christmas concert this year!  The theme is based on a story called, "Merry Christmas, Mr. Mouse". Tickets will be sent home this week.  If you are requesting more tickets, please contact the office as we only have limited tickets.  If you will not be using your tickets, please send them back to school so we can distribute them to families needing more.
-We need your help with costumes!! Each student in our class needs to have an apron and a chef hat for our song.  If you have an apron at home or are able to pick one up from the dollar store, please send it to school labelled with your child's name.  It will be returned after the concert.  I believe our plan will be to make chef hats at school, unless anyone has a connection to get 23 little chef hats!  If you do, please let me know!
-There will be more information sent home in the next couple of weeks.  Please don't hesitate to contact myself or Mrs. Sheedy if you have any questions.

November 11-15

Thank you to our Grade 5 staff and students for a beautiful Remembrance Day assembly.  Our grade ones were proud to wear the poppy that they made to show that they honour the soldiers and the families who were affected by war.

Last week in Science, we did a cool experiment called "Rainbow milk".  The students wanted me to share this how this experiment was done so they could try it at home (with the help of an adult).  Check the link below.

What a busy but exciting week we had in Grade One!  We had a blast investigating and decorating pumpkins, doing Halloween centers, dressing up in costumes and participating in the Grade 4 carnival!  I was so impressed with the students' fantastic behaviour on Halloween!  They made this normally crazy day so much fun!  Please check the pictures tab for lots of pictures of the week!
