December 16-20

We are only ONE week away from Christmas holidays!  How did that happen already?  We have been fun and festive in Grade One as we have been busy preparing for our concert, crafting presents for our family, reading all sorts of Christmas and Hanukkah stories, doing acts for kindness for others with our Kindess Countdown calendar, and writing our very own versions of the Gingerbread Man.  Let's not forget, our special field trip to SJF where we made snowflakes, read stories and had hot chocolate with our friends from Grade 7!

Tomorrow is cookie decorating day!  Thank you to the parents who volunteered to bake cookies or help out tomorrow. Students need to bring their decorating supplies to share.  They will be bringing their decorated cookies home to share with friends and family.

-We will be having a little Christmas party on Thursday, December 19.  You will not need to pack a full lunch for your child as we will be having lots of snacks throughout the day. A big thank you to the families that have signed up to bring snacks.  If it no longer works for you to bring the item you've signed up for, no worries, just please let me know.

December 9-13

Christmas is in the air and the students were really excited about the arrival of "Cutie" our Christmas elf.  Each day, Cutie has been hiding around the classroom and we have been writing about her in our Elf Journals. We have also been trimming Santa's beard for our Christmas Kindness advent.  Each day, the students have a kindness challenge to complete.  Last week, we focussed on compliments, smiling and greeting people when we see them, and making cards for someone special.  This week we will also be learning about other holiday traditions like Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who joined us at the Galt Museum.  We had so much fun recreating Christmas traditions from the past.  Check out our pictures by clicking on the Pictures tab.
We will be very sad to say goodbye to Miss Bennis this week. We have truly enjoyed having her in our classroom and we wish her all the best in her journey through education.  We know that she will be a fantastic teacher and we thank her for all of her hard work and dedication to our students.

Christmas Concert
-I would like to send a HUGE thank you to a wonderful parent who went out and bought cute little chef hats for all of the students to wear on the concert night!   If you have an apron at home or are able to pick one up from the dollar store, please send it to school labelled with your child's name. (I saw some cute Christmas aprons at the west side Dollarama for $3). I would really like all aprons at school by Friday, December 13 so that we can make sure everyone has one.
-If you requested extra tickets for the concert night, they will be sent home tomorrow.  Please check the front pocket of your child's agenda.
