Library- Our class library day is on Thursday. Please help your child to be responsible and bring their books back to school every Thursday or sooner.
Show and Share- Starting in October, every Friday we will have time for show and share. We will have 4 students each Friday bring something from home that they would like to share with the class. This gives the students an opportunity to build confidence when speaking in front of an audience, as well as good practice answering questions from their peers.
-Some ideas would be a special item from home, photographs or a video (sent my email, USB, or disc), or sharing a special talent that they may have. I would like to ask that no fake weapons be brought to school for this or anything else in the form of violence. If your child would like to bring a pet, please let me know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements.
Home Reading- Starting in October we will begin our Home Reading Program. Please make time to read one or two books every night with your child. Each day they will bring home a reading bag along with 2 or 3 stories. Please read these stories with them, record the book information in the folder and return to school the next day. Don't forget to record any other books that your child reads in their duotang as well. They do not have to be books from the classroom. The more they read the better!
Words of the Week- each week, the students will write 5 new grade one
sight words into their agenda. They will also add word flashcards to
their flashcard ring. Please help your child practice reading and
spelling these words at home. We will NOT be having formal spelling
tests, but I will assess to see if your child can read these sight words.
They will be added to our classroom "word wall". This will also
begin in October.
